President's Message
President's Remarks:
 
President Karen welcomed everyone to the meeting today.  Karen mentioned that the Music Festival was a huge success.
 
Karen also mentioned that invitation (not tickets) for our Centennial Celebration on June 8th were on the table.  Online registration is now available, with cash payments being accepted beginning in April.
 
Rotary Fun Fact:
  • During the Festival 29 Rotarians & 1 Friend of Rotary filled 77 positions (38 Door monitors, 24 Information desks and 15 Drivers).  This does not include the time for the Festival committee, and there were also 76 positions as Adjudicator and Performers secretaries, filled by our "Ladies of the Festival".

Music Festival Information:
  • Club Evening Meeting - Rosebowl Winner April 16, 2018:  An evening of celebration of the Rosebowl winner and the end of this year's festival.  At the Medicine Hat College Cafeteria.
 
Rotary Presentations:
  • Chris Perret, our President-Elect gave his reclassification talk.
  • Chris gave power point assisted talk about his "Life and Times". He gave an overview of his life growing up on a farm and in town. He also gave a overview of his siblings and step siblings and how they had a great family life. Chris is a huge fan of the Roughriders and so played football in school but a knee injury stopped his plan for a professional career. Chris went to the University of Saskatoon and took 3 yrs of education and then obtained a commerce degree. After several jobs, he found a life long excellent move forward with an appraisal company and a professional appraiser. He gave an overview of his start in Rotary in 2008 and how Rotary has motivated him to be more involved.  This is a very short overview of an excellent presentation.

  • Upcoming Rotary District Events:
  • District Global Grant Workshop - March 24, 2018 – District is hosting a Global Grants workshop in Calgary.
  • District 5360 Convention: May 4 – 6, 2018:   Register on District website.  Early bird registration has been extended to February 15th.  The Club will provide support to Rotarians interested in attending the District Convention.
  • Rotary International Convention – June 23-27, 2018 in Toronto:  This is a great opportunity for new and seasoned Rotarians to become immersed in the world of Rotary. The Club has agreed to provide an incentive of $500 for new members and $200 for existing members to attend the RI Conference.

Family of Rotary:
  • Adolf Seiler relayed the news that Deb Panabaker has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma which is basically a cancer of the lymph glands. It has been detected early and the medical system is moving quickly on it, so our thought and prayers are with her and the family as she goes through Chemo.

  • Chris P  advised that the next meeting will a promotional event.
  • Don R asked for Mentors for the 8 new members 
  • Joe Chacko  gave an overview of the festival and thanked all who assisted and supported the event.
  • Jillian K had draw tickets from the music festival for sale at $2.00 each.
