President's Message
President's Remarks:

President Karen Blewett welcomed everyone to the last meeting of November, and it less than one month until Christmas holidays.  President Karen also thanked everyone who attended Bob Mutschler's funeral on Saturday, it was great to see such a strong Rotarian turnout.  She also thanked everyone who participated in the social evening at JR Junkies, to experience the world of virtual reality.

Rotary Fun Fact:

As part of her tradition, President Karen reveal another interesting historic fact about our Club. This week, Karen reported a story from the January 1947 edition of The Rotarian Magazine, which recognized the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat for a handshake meeting between the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat and the Rotary Club of Havre, Montana.  Apparently reciprocal visits between the clubs were common at that time, and both clubs were credited with lobbying for improvements in the roadway that connected the two communities. At the time it was a simple dirt trail, and is now, of course, Highway 41.

Business Meeting - November 27
It is the intention of this year's Board, to hold a regular business meeting (closed to guests) on the last Monday of each month.  In that way, Rotary business can be discussed in a regular schedule and any items needing the Boards attention can be dealt with quickly at the Board meeting the next month.

  1. The Rotary Impact Assessment is being moving along toward a January presentation to the club.  Jace Anderson is looking for contact information for past Youth Exchange Students and anyone with information please contact Bruce Shepard, Doug Fleming or Karen Blewett.
  2. President Karen will be on holidays "down under" for the December 11th and December 18th meeting.  President-elect Chris Perret will handle both those meetings in her absence.  It was also noted that both the December 25th meeting and the January 1st meetings fall squarely on the holiday, so both are cancelled.
  3. President-elect Chris Perret came to the podium to discuss the notice of motion which was due for a vote today.  In order to consolidate all RC of MH material in one location, the Board has proposed that "Based on an maximum estimated expenditure of $6,000, proposed to purchase a Sea-Can, to be installed in available space at the rear of the Top Hat Bingo Hall, be used to store all the clubs material".
    • The location would allow accessibility at all times.
    • Sea-Can's by their nature are almost air tight, and should keep out weather and vermin.
    • A nominal fee is going to be charged by the Bingo Society for use of the space, and this opportunity may be offered to other members of the Society.
    • Shelving and containers may be needed to properly store the material.  As well, the possibility of a used container exists.
Based on the information presented, Chris Perret moved and Terry Brekko seconded the motion.  It was approved unanimously.

Christmas Project:

Heather Bach provided an update on this years Christmas project, a 'hands-on' project at our Christmas Party. First of all, our Christmas Party will be a noon luncheon on December 4, partners are most welcome, and where we will be putting together Christmas stocking for people in the local Hospice & Nursing Homes. A group of shoppers will be required likely on Friday December 1, and Heather is looking for a few Rotarians to come to the meeting early on Dec 4, to help layout the items for the stockings.  The stockings will be delivered to Cypress View Lodge (Teeoda Lodge) on Thursday December 18th.  A group of Rotarians will be asked to go and hand out the stockings.

Heather has provided a list of items members can bring. The club is also accepting cash donation to purchase items. The following is a list of items required for the Christmas Stockings: Mini Hand Lotion, Lip Balm, Cross Word or Word Find with pencil, Chocolate, Tic Tacs, Tooth Brush, Tooth Paste, Mouth Wash, Small Teddy Bear.
