President's Message
President's Remarks

President Uwe welcomed everyone to this busy meeting.  He specifically thanked everyone who helped on our 27th annual cleanup of the section of the Trans Canada Highway on Saturday morning.  Although the volume of litter has continued to modestly decline year over year, the discovery of 3 needles was a troublesome addition to the litter collected.

He also thanked those that had participated in the bingo last week, and those working on the Centennial Celebration for Friday evening.

Rotary Presentations:

PDG Sandy Mackay and President Uwe Krickhahn presented two additional  Paul Harris Fellowships, to deserving Rotarians.  Marg Mazerolle has achieved a incremental level of PHF and got a new distinguishing pin.  In addition, Roger Roy received his initial Paul Harris pin as part of our drive to be a 100% PHF club.  Congratulations to both of you.

PDG Sandy also spoke about the upcoming changes in his role with District (shrinking) and his role with zone (growing extensively).  As described in an email from DG Neil Berg last week, Sandy will be taking on the role of Assistant Coordinator for the Rotary Foundation with Zone 24.  He'll be active in all the prairie provinces, and a pretty busy guy getting to all the clubs.  He also will be off to Volgograd, Russia in about a week to represent the Rotary President at their District Conference.  He's waiting on a visa, which has so far not arrived, but there is still a little time.

Health Quality Council of Alberta presentation
The Rotary Club of Medicine Hat was pleased to welcome several representatives of the Health Quality Council of Alberta.

Andrew Neuner, Chief Executive Office spoke about the role of HQCA, an organization that very few of us know much about.  They are a provincial agency that pursues opportunities to improve patient safety and health service quality for Albertans.  He spoke about the groups role, which includes working collaboratively with healthcare providers and partners, to drive improvement to both the cost and quality of delivered services.  Andrew spoke about the "fact" that Albertans pay more per capita for healthcare than any other province in Canada, but on an outcomes basis rate only average or less than average in the value of that service.  This isn't sustainable, and they attempt to provide factual information from surveys and other learning methods to ensure future Albertans will experience an improvement in the level of care.

Their website is http://www.hqca.ca and their work, and our current statistics can be viewed there.  A number of pieces of literature were left for the club members.

Certainly a popular subject of conversation, Andrew answered a number of questions from members of the audience.
