President's Message
President's Remarks:
President Karen welcomed everyone to this auspicious meeting, the beginning of Rotary Week, June 4 - 8 to celebrate our Centennial, and the start of the next 100 years of service to the community.
President Karen, and President-elect Chris attended the signing of the official proclamation of Rotary week, with Mayor Ted Clugston on Thursday May 31, 2018 at City Hall
As well, in recognition of Rotary Week, a Rotary Flag will fly at City Hall all this week, and the official flag raising was this morning at 11 am.  A great turnout by club members, to witness this acknowledgement of our Centennial.
Thanks to Deputy Mayor, Kris Samraj for attending and to members of Sunrise Rotary and Saamis Rotary for being present as well.
President Karen also mentioned that several Rotarians from our club are featured in the Visions Magazine, a publication of the Rotary Foundation that was delivered last week to everyone.  Have a look for the photo of Kitt and Dieter Brand, as well as an interesting story about Jane and Sandy Mackay.
Rotary Fun Fact:
President Karen acknowledged the history of Women in Rotary, which originally involved quite a struggle by established clubs to grasp the "concept" and changes to the Rotary International bylaws and individual club bylaws.
In our club, three women were inducted into the membership of the club on February 3, 1992.  By 2018 more than 35% of the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat are women, and they have taken many leadership roles in the club and District over the past several decades.
In honor of all the women in our club, President Karen presented each of them with a  "Women in Rotary" pin.
Membership Update:
The induction of Krista Lawson was done by President Karen, and Past President Doug Fleming with the assistance of her sponsor, Chris Perret.

New member Induction - Krista Lawson
It is always a privilege to induct new members into the club, and this week that privilege belonged to Past President Doug Fleming.
With the assistance of President Karen Blewett, he inducted Krista Lawson, Classic Valuations into our club.  Her sponsor is President-elect Chris Perret and he was present to say a few words about Krista and to welcome her into the world of Rotary.
We look forward to getting to know Krista as time goes on and welcome her contributions to the club and the community.
