Prospective Members:
The club is actively recruiting new members. The Membership Committee, lead by Membership Director, Jenny Hetherington, would be happy to assist anyone who is considering proposing a member and would like feedback or help with the process.  One of our Strategic Plan targets is to have 100 active, engaged members for our Centennial celebration in 2018.

Meeting Reminder:
As many in the club know, we recently had a member resign, due to extreme hearing loss.  Because hearing difficulties are experienced by a number of Rotarians and guests, one of our members put together a list of helpful reminders to ensure we do our best to accommodate those with auditory challenges.

- Speak slowly and distinctly.  Slow, concise speech can be learned and become habit-forming.
- Use the "4 P's" - persistent, patient, practice with a positive attitude.  Emphasize each key word in a sentence with a slight pause.
- USE the handheld microphone, both for comments and during club activities.
- Keep table conversation to a minimum, out of respect for those speaking and to avoid background noise that is distracting.

With a little practice, we can help everyone in the club both hear and understand, both as a courtesy and to help engage all members in the club.

Up Coming Events:
  • Bill Yuill will be speaking to the Club on November 14th. This may be a great meeting to bring a guest.

Centennial Fund Raising Project
Monday presentation was done by our own Dave Panabaker, Chris Perret and Jenna Raimbault, who make a presentation on a new Centennial Fund raising project. The group pitched the concept of the 1st Annual Rotary Vision & Legacy Gala. The idea is this fundraising project would be initially used to help fund our Centennial Trail System Sign and Improvement project. However, the group felt that this event could become a successful fundraiser for future years. With gaming funds slowly declining, the Club needs to look at other ways of raising revenue. The group propose to book the newly renovated Beverage Building for this gala, which will be held on April 28th, 2017. The plan is to pattern the event along the concept of the Medalta Black & White Gala, but with some different themes. It is anticipated that we would sell between 200 to 300 tickets at a cost of $100.

The event would be a combination of food, music and entertainment, along with auctions and draws. The concept is to use the entire building and have different themes and activities on each floor. Participants would be given an event passport which would be stamped at the different area.  A Pub scene is proposed in the basement; an Art Gallery with sales and live and silent auctions along with musical presentations would be held on the 1st Floor Murano room and finally an upscale area to meet and mingle would be held on the top floor Ballroom.  Rather than a sit down meal, food would be appetizer style appropriate to the different levels. The event would be an opportunity to showcase music provided by participants from the Music Festival, as well as an opportunity to showcase Rotary.

The planning group project that this event could realize a profit of between $30,00 to $40,000, but realize that this will also be a significant amount of work and requires the commitment of the entire Rotary Club and hopefully assistance from our Interact and Rotaract Clubs. Following a good discussion, the Club members were asked if they supported this event. A motion of support moved Terry Brekko and seconded by Sandy MacKay was carried by the Club. Following confirmation of the Club's support for the project Dave Panabaker presented a motion, seconded by Dick Bide that the Committee be given up to $10,000 as seed money for this event. The motion was carried.

To be successful, this event will be a large undertaking and will require a significant amount of effort from many members. If you want to get involved in the planning stages, please contact Dave, Chris or Jenna.
