Major Donor Level 3 Presentation to Kitt and Dieter Brand
Meeting Reminder:
As many in the club know, we recently had a couple of members resign, due to extreme hearing loss. Because hearing difficulties are experienced by a number of Rotarians and guests, one of our members put together a list of helpful reminders to ensure we do our best to accommodate those with auditory challenges.
- Speak slowly and distinctly. Slow, concise speech can be learned and become habit-forming.
- Use the "4 P's" - persistent, patient, practice with a positive attitude. Emphasize each key word in a sentence with a slight pause.
- USE the handheld microphone, both for comments and during club activities.
- Keep table conversation to a minimum, out of respect for those speaking and to avoid background noise that is distracting.
With a little practice, we can help everyone in the club both hear and understand, both as a courtesy and to help engage all members in the club.

ALSO, President Uwe received a note from Anne Carrier, who is enjoying the sunny south, but obviously is not idle.
"Greetings. I attended this K to 8 Back to Basics Mesa Public school last
Thursday, Nov. 17 and presented Dictionaries to five Grade 3 classes. This
Rotary club is dedicated to literacy in the schools and provides books from
time to time. It was very interesting for Ric and I to help with this
project and see a lovely school of 1100 students. Prior to giving out the
135 dictionaries, a work party was held at our home to place name stickers,
Rotary logo and a book Marks with the four way test in each book
This Rotary Club also helps packs hampers at the food bank and provides
refurbished computers to a children's home. Very few members, but dedicated
and active in the community.
Hello to all and best wishes to all. See you in December."

Dieter Brand was happy to celebrate his daughter's birthday.

Ted Cowtan was very happy with a favorable prognosis in a health issue involving his granddaughter in Australia.
Uwe Krickhahn was happy that his daughters family was safely returned from Hawaii last night.

The Rotary Club was pleased to receive a presentation from Sean Blewett, Manager of Community Futures Entre-Corp who is the acting camp manager for the Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp. The camp has just celebrated their 20th anniversary and Sean presented a short video on the Impact of the program on the participants. Sean was joined by Joel Higgins in providing the information. The camp was started by the late Les Erickson of the Sunrise Club, and is principly used to introduce business development concept and entrepreneurial skills to young people.
In the twenty years since the camp was started, more than 1,300 participants have attended the week long event at Eagles Nest Ranch. Over the past few years, this Rotary District has sponsored over 40 kids to attend, and there is work going on to determine a more permanent role for Rotary, much like RYPEN or RYLA.
The Economic Assessment showed that the impact on communities where the participants return to is significant. 30% of the graduates start their own business and over 75% obtain a post secondary degree (over double the provincial average). As well, over 90% of the graduates went back to their communities and took on Leadership roles.
After the video presentation, there were a number of questions. Thanks to Sean and Joel for the informative presentation and their work with youth.
