President's Message
President Uwe Krickhahn welcomed everyone to this important meeting, both to welcome a new Rotarian and to approve the 2016 - 2017 budget.

Rotary Information
  • President Uwe thanked everyone who participated in building and riding the Rotary float in the Stampede Parade.  Particularly he thanked Pam Rickey for helping organize.  He also passed on that Pam's father passed away right after the parade finished, and we all wish her well in dealing with that, as well as a family wedding this past weekend.
Rotary Presentations
  •  This week was a special occasion, as the club inducted our newest member, Jillian Koch (pron. "Coach") .  Her induction was performed by Past President Dawn Barr, and she was supported by her sponsor Dave Stalwick and her mentor Teresa Schile.  It is wonderful to share the Rotary world with a new member, and we all wished Jillian the best as she learns about the organization.

Rotary Reminders
  • President Uwe reminded everyone of the special meeting on Monday August 22nd, with the senior executive of the University of Alberta.  Perhaps a good meeting to bring a friend to.
Prospective Members:
The club is actively recruiting new members. The membership committee, lead by Membership Director, Jenny Hetherington, would be happy to assist anyone who is considering proposing a member and would like feedback or help with the process.  One of our Strategic Plan targets is to have 100 active, engaged members for our Centennial celebration in 2018.

Jenny reminded those sponsors who had put names forward that the following individuals have been approved by the committee and the board, and can be approached.

Annual Budget Presentation
Gail Halderman, treasurer of the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat presented the annual budget for this Rotary year.

It was noted that this is Gail's 20th year as treasurer, for which he received a warm acknowledgement.

The budget in general highlighted specific things.

- there is no casino income in this Rotary year, as our next event is likely next fall.
- annual dues are unchanged at $220/year and are payable now.  Everyone should have an invoice.
- a correction was made to the expenditures under International Service, it should have been $20,000 in (16-17) for our Nicaragua project.
- our annual donation to the Music Festival Society is identified at $40,000 this year.
- the club has significant cash in our gaming reserves, which we have requested AGLC to allow us to hold onto, pending expenditures on our Centennial project.

A number of questions were asked, and on a motion from Treasurer Gail, the budget was passed unanimously.

A complete copy of the document is available to club members under the "Club Documents" section of Clubrunner.  Treasurer Gail will have an updated copy, including the breakdown by directorship available if anyone wishes to read through it. Many thanks to Gail and the rest of club executive for getting that process finished and presented to the club early in the year.
