President Meeting Remarks:
President Terry Partis welcomed everyone to the last club meeting of December and also of this calendar year. He expressed amazement at how fast this year has flown by, he is halfway through his year as President. President Terry wished everyone a safe and happy Christmas season, and passed on the Board's decision that we would continue to meet virtually through at least the end of January, as we deal with the current variant issues with COVID.
Terry reviewed all the activities that wemt on this past week. He thanked Dawn Barr for organizing a Christmas Cheer and Light Tour on Wednesday night. Although it was a chilly drive, everyone who participated really enjoyed it and we hope to do it again next year. Terry also thanked those Rotarians who worked the Rotary Bingo on Wednesday evening. Although the bingo attendance was down, the team did a great job. As well the Rotary Board met on Thursday evening and Terry expressed his appreciation, and that of Adolf Seiler, for the Club's participatin in ringing the bells for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles on Saturday and today (Monday).
Terry also pointed out that Rotarian Brent Secondiak took the time to post his time and location on Facebook, and therefore drummed up a little personal support for the Salvation Army program. Great forethought, and something we should consider for next year.
Past President Mark Sorenson then took the "mic", and spoke about his progress at recruiting a slate of Officers for the Board of 2022 - 2023. He advised that with the addition of Milan Vujovic and Edward Lipin we will be back to our full complement of six directors for the next year. Thanks went out to both Milan and Edward for stepping forward.
PP Mark also mentioned that both the Club Secretary, Doug Fleming and Club Treasurer, Gail Halderman will continue on the Board next year. What is remaining is for someone to take the position of President-elect for 2022 - 2023, and be President of the Club through 2023 - 2024. Both Mark and Terry spoke about the support that the President receives from the Board, and that the position is not as onerous as some people might think.
Mark is looking for volunteers to identify themselves to him over the Christmas break, and he would like to be able to propose our next President-elect at the Club Business Meeting at the end of January. Please consider if you have the time and energy to serve the club this way, it is a great experience and appreciated by all the members of the club.
The meeting closed with a "round the room" tour from everyone describing what they were doing for the Christmas holiday break, and ended with best wishes for all Rotarians this holiday season.
