Dear Fellow Rotarians
How radically our lives have changed, and in such a short space of time!
At global, country and city levels, we are all having to think and ‘do’ differently. The spread of the virus and the number of deaths is horrific. At the same time, there are positives emerging here and there, all over the globe, which attest to the creativity, adaptability and flexibility of people.
My hope is that during the weeks (and months) ahead, we will use some of our time to critically reflect on our Club. What do we value that needs to be retained and strengthened? What improvements can we bring about? What do we need to drop? Which of the creative things we are doing at present, should be maintained?
We still have that all important longer-term goal of becoming a stronger, more diverse Club that makes a significant impact on the quality of life of people, locally and further afield.
Right now, let us convert our new lifestyle of ‘social distancing’, into ‘distance socializing’, keeping regular contact with one another, in creative ways, to support and serve one another.
On the request of the Board, the Membership Committee (chair: Mike Christie) will in fact be taking the lead in this regard.
Over the next seven days, all our members will receive a call. The opportunity will be used to find out how you are and whether you could use any kind of assistance. But we will also be using the opportunity to briefly explore other Club related matters with you. We look forward to doing this! It will be a great opportunity to make your voice, your opinions, ideas and wishes, heard.
Our Weekly News will come out faithfully, every week, thanks to Dave Panabaker and other editors. We will do our best to keep you up to date with Rotary and member related matters – and we ask that you help us with this by feeding through information you would like published. This could include ideas for local (non-contact) Rotary Community Service… and/or information about what services you are currently involved in, via other organizations and groups.
Please also remember to use and refer to our Rotary Club Facebook pages, one open to the public and the closed to non-Club members.
Warm greetings to you and your loved ones, from your Board. May we all actively live out our ‘Service above Self’ commitment, in this new era, in relevant, creative and appropriate ways, both old and new.
