President's Information
President's Remarks:

President Margie began the meeting by putting out an "all points bulletin" for our guest speaker, Police Chief Andy McGrogan.  We will dig into his absence and reschedule his talk for a future meeting.

Margie took the opportunity to have a number of Rotarians speak (see the club "minute people") about various aspects of club business and she used the extra time to allow our Short Term Youth Exchange students to present on their experience.

Margie also spoke about the celebration for Afghanistan's 100th Anniversary today.  They are one of only two countries in the world where the wild transmission of polio still occurs.  Polio has no cure, only regular vaccinations of children can prevent it's occurrence.  Sandy Mackay will be leading an effort by all three local clubs to inform, educate, raise awareness and raise funds for End Polio Now, on "World Polio Day", October 24.

President Margie also provided the update that our NGSE student, Katharina Braess has left District 5360 on her way home to Germany, by way of a stop in Montreal.  Margie passed along Katharina's parents thanks and gratitude for the hospitality she received and the education in the legal profession, both Birgit and Jan send their most heartfelt thanks!  Both Neil Mardian and Ken Feser volunteered to help Margie with NGSE on a go forward basis.  For more information on Service Exchange please see the website https://www.web.youngadultexchanges.org

District Governor Christine Rendell sent along a note that 5360 is celebrating 30 years of Women in Rotary by holding a fabulous event showcasing some of our incredible Women of Action! who have positively impacted our local and global communities.  The venue is the gorgeous Rotary Bethany Atrium located in Bethany Riverview Village 200, 2915 - 26 Ave SE Calgary, at a cost of $30.

Short Term Youth Exchange
It was a pleasure to welcome our current Short Term Youth Exchange participants, Karli Mardian from Medicine Hat and Bennedetta Minello from Italy to the meeting today.  Bennedetta is on the reciprocal portion of the exchange, after her family entertained Karli in Italy earlier this summer.

The girls were introduced by Rotarian Neil Mardian, and provided photographs of both halves of the exchange.  Karli spend 3 weeks in Italy and Bennedetta has one week remaining on her three week visit.  The girls have had a wonderful time, and everything has gone swimmingly (lots of water sports photos).
