MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
President Bruce Shepard welcomed all to the ‘practice run’ for the ‘Why Rotary?’ membership recruitment event, coming up on Wednesday 24 April.

He emphasized the importance of capturing our passion for Rotary, conveying to guests why we became Rotarians, why we remain Rotarians… and keeping our presentations short and sweet!

Mike Christie took us through a rehearsal of the program for the ‘Why Rotary’ event, Mike being the MC. Dale Stein kindly operated the PowerPoint slides, all the necessary equipment having been set up by our IT Whiz Team!

President Bruce made opening remarks, Bruce then read PP Melanie Harty’s page on International and Community projects, Margie Booyens presented on Youth and Young Adult programs, Keith Walker spoke for Sunrise Club, Brian Robinson for Saamis Club and the Monarch 1911 Society, and President Bruce then made closing remarks.

A discussion followed each presentation and again at the end, with helpful feedback given for the consideration of the presenters.

The subsequent discussion included how the reception of guests will be handled; the menu; the setting up of the tables that guests will be asked to visit after the presentations, each of which will portray a different facet of Rotary's service; and the clearing up of the venue after the event.

Milan Vujovic will be in the Ballroom on Wednesday afternoon, to set up the tables. He will welcome any assistance offered!

THERE IS MUCH EXCITEMENT IN THE AIR ABOUT OUR FORTHCOMING ‘WHY ROTARY’ EVENT on Wednesday 24 April! – the great thing being that the positive vibes are shared by all four Clubs in Medicine Hat!

NOTE:
The noon meeting on Monday 29 April, again at the Medicine Hat Lodge, will focus on a look-back on the ‘Why Rotary?’ event, and tentative planning based on this assessment.

    Minute Reminders:

WHY ROTARY? EVENT: Wednesday April 24, from 6:30pm
Milan Vujovic will welcome volunteers to help him decorate the Stampede Grounds Ballroom from about 13:30 on Wednesday 24th.

Interact members and selected Rotary Music Festival participants will be in attendance, as will members of the other Rotary Clubs in town.

There will be a cash bar. Coffee and liqueur are included in the $30 pp ticket.

The event will be run like a typical Rotary Club meeting.

NEXT CLUB MEETING: Monday 29 April 2024
The next noon meeting will again be at the Medicine Hat Lodge. The focus will be on a review of how the 'Why Rotary' event went, what we might do differently in the future and how we might encourage those who were interested to attend future meetings.

    CENTENNIAL TRAIL CLEANUP:
Dan Kammer and Dale Stein have scouted out all the potential future dates and believe that Saturday May 25th, from 9:30 am to noon will be the best time for the club to help with the annual "Litter Blitz" and clean up Rotary Centennial Trail.  Please put this date aside, as many hands make this less work.

    YOUTH EXCHANGE UPDATE:
Milan Vujovic has been assisting the MH Saamis Club with the Youth Exchange program for 2024-25.  He will be performing the role of inbound counsellor for their Brazilian exchange student, Samaria, who will be arriving in late August.  He hopes to have her attend a meeting of ours in the fall and perhaps a few as the year progresses.

    CLUB MEETING VENUE::
We are scheduled to meet at the MH College, Room S102 on May 6 and May 13.  Arrangements to this "test site" for meetings are in the works.

ANNUAL ROSEBOWL PERFORMANCE FOR OUR CLUB:
The winner of the 2024 Rosebowl, Sterling Clark, will be performing for the Rotary Club and guests in the Recital Hall, Cultural Center at 7:00 pm on Thursday June 6.  Please consider this a partners event, and an opportunity to invite interested parties to see one of our Music Festival alumni perform.  A reception at the Cultural Center is planned for after the performance.

    District Governor Kurt:
DG Kurt is planning to attend the "Why Rotary" event and looks forward to what will come from it.  He encouraged everyone to watch for the start of the RI Convention in Singapore (June 21st), for the best deals on the RI Convention in Calgary.  Both hotel bookings and 2025 convention registration will be available once the 2024 convention begins.

Monarch Theatre: Sunday May 12th (Mother's Day) fundraisers
A duo will be performing two concerts at the Monarch on May 12th.  The cost of each ticket is $70.00, which will return a $40.00 charitable receipt for each ticket. Given that it is Mother's Day, restaurants are going to be busy, so reservations are recommended.  The box office at the Monarch will be open Monday to Friday (8 - 5) to purchase tickets.  A great idea for something special for Mom, or a significant other!
