President Mark Sorenson and the Rotary Board wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy Christmas and holiday season. There have been a few emails and things to remind Rotarians about over the holiday season, so this is a special edition of the Weekly News.
On the subject of Christmas, all Dick Bide, Dave Panabaker and Glen Presley want for next Christmas is to see CP Rail bring 2816 to town, hopefully hauling the 2021 Holiday train. Guaranteed the three of us would have a Merry Christmas!
Please continue to sell the tickets for Club 1000, the Festival is still "on", although a virtual Festival will be a first for all of us. This raffle is our principle fundraising for the Music Festival. (as of December 28, we have 376 paid tickets in the draw barrel, and $18,800 in the bank).
Rotary Club "What-z New":
A new club laptop is in our future, the current one will not provide the service required to stream our meetings.
If our hybrid meetings continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound. We are all learning as we go along here, but these type of meetings are manpower intensive.
Rotary Club Membership Update:
If you are interested in helping this working membership team, please contact Mike Christie.
Rotary Club Information:
Housekeeping:
Please collect club draw items. It is an important part of our meeting and the funds generated help to run the club.
If you have a Meeting Minute, please phone or email the Newsletter and we'll include it.
Board minutes can be found on ClubRunner, under Club Documents.
Upcoming Club Program, Activities, and Meetings
Our next "ZOOM" meeting will be Monday, January 4 at noon.
The DG and President Mark have requested that we limit our in person gatherings while COVID cases are rising in the community. Our meetings will be virtual until at least Monday January 25th, that is currently our first scheduled " in person" meeting, but don't hold our breath!
Upcoming Rotary District and International Events:
Mark this date in your calendars, the 2021 Rotary District Conference is May 14 - 16, 2021 in Drumheller, AB.
Future Programs:
The Rotary Club's Program Coordinator is Jillian Koch. If you have future program ideas, please email Jillian at jkoch@jmhca.com
Margie Booyens is looking for Rotarians to volunteer to serve on our board for the year 2021-2022. There is a need for at least 3 more volunteers.
If you wish to make that donation to the Santa Claus Fund, please go to https://www.mhsantafund.com and press the DONATE button. In the "notes" section please put a note like "2020 Rotary Club Pass the Hat", so the donations can be totaled by the fund.
PDG Pat Killoran passed on the YouTube link to our Q&A session with Rotary President nominee Jennifer Jones. If you missed it, enjoy a great hour of Rotary fellowship here. https://youtu.be/i2VaXu1rexs
Terry Cooper and the rest of the "Team Freewheel" group have been busy over the holidays with the first group of 30 bicycles the Rotary Club has secured from the Medicine Hat Police Service. The group hopes to have a significant number to the Salvation Army for the holiday season. Several people have contacted the club through Facebook, to offer bikes that they have no use for and a number of Rotarians have also sent bikes along. We also want to acknowledge Gravity Sports, who is contributing spare parts and helping with other aspects of the project. Good work by Peter Mueller, Roger Roy, Terry Cooper and thanks to Ric Carrier as well.
Rob Wolfson, Learning Center Liaison, District 5360 Learning & Development Committee passed on a reminder to study the "Rotary Basic's Module" and the "Getting Started with Toastmasters" modules under the Learning Center in "My Rotary"...if you haven't set up an account yet, please give Doug Fleming, Dave Panabaker or Sandy Mackay a call....we should be able to help you.
Dave Panabaker also encouraged all Rotarians to sign up for the next Rotary training webinar, titled "The Value of Clubrunner". Clubrunner is the tool that runs many of our meeting, website and promotion functions, and you can always learn something from these sessions. This one will be Wednesday evening, January 6th at 7:00 pm...for novice and experienced Rotarians alike. Register at this link https://rotary5360.ca/event/webinar--the-value-of-clubrunner
