President Mark kicked off our "hybrid" meeting today (in-person and ZOOM), with a welcome to all. As seen in the background of the photo, a total of 8 Rotarians joined us virtually today, so the attendance number was almost a record...
Mark announced that we would do a new member induction today, and recognize the contributions of another Rotarian, with an honorary designation.
President Mark also announced that the Rotary Board has agreed to move PP Gerry Nadeau's status to Honorary, in recognition for his 36 years of service to the club. Gerry health does not allow him to attend meetings any longer and he was very happy to be recognized this way.
As well, Mark thanked everyone for their support and participation in the World Polio Day (Saturday Oct 24, 2020) events. As well the Rotary Board has decided to purchase 100 copies of our club Centennial History document, and will have those copies available for sale at future club meetings. An electronic copy will also be available. Left over copies will make great gifts for visitors and guest speakers..
Also, President Mark mentioned that our annual contribution to the Canadian Legion has been made. Unfortunately due to COVID there will not be a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenetaph, a limited attendance event will be held at the Legion. Rotary District 5360 is providing an "on line" Remembrance Day service on Nov 11, from 10:30 till noon. If you would like to participate, please register on the District webpage at https://www.crsadmin.com/EventPortal/Registrations/PublicFill/EventPublicFill.aspx?evtid=4aad578e-67e6-492a-b7de-4d9b0cc32cb0
Rotary Club "What-z New":
A new club laptop is in our future, the current one wasn't up to the task and we all thank Anne Christie for the use of hers.
If our hybrid meetings continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound. We are all learning as we go along here, but these type of meetings are manpower intensive.
Rotary Club Membership Update:
Perhaps one of the best parts of the work of the membership committee is the induction of new Rotarians. Today, our club welcomed Edward Lipin, with SD No 76 to our Rotary family. President Mark Sorenson and Past President Margie Booyens performed the induction ceremony and Edward was supported by his sponsor, Mike Christie. Welcome to Rotary, Edward!
If you are interested in helping this working membership team, please contact Mike Christie.

This year the mayor of Medicine Hat, Ted Clugston (also an Honorary member of our Club) is signing a PROCLAMATION around World Polio Day. The ceremony took place at City Hall on Friday 23rd. In the meantime, we’re raising public awareness about Polio and Rotary’s involvement via posters in City Hall. In attendance, Club Presidents Mark Sorenson, Clare Lindsay, Jim Marshall and AG Keith Walker
Edward Lipin, his last time as a guest as he joins Rotary today.
It was wonderful to see Sig Kappler at the meeting today.

Dave Stalwick was the lucky winner of two mugs.
Minute People:
PDG Sandy Mackay was pleased to present Honorary Rotarian Sig Kappler with a 2 ruby Paul Harris pin, recognizing his continuing support of the Rotary Foundation.
PP Margie Booyens took 4 minutes (for which she was properly fined).
Margie announced that the 2nd annual New Generations Service Exchange Online Conference is November 21 and 22. If you are attending please register in advance by clicking on the link https://ngseconference2020.org/en/sign-up .
Margie reviewed all the activities and publicity Rotary received and we all enjoyed watching the mayor read the proclamation. Thanks to Peter Mueller for recording it and Kitt Brand for writing the longest proclamation Mayor Ted has ever had to read.
PP Margie also mentioned that in her PP role, she is engaging other PP in the search for our new President-elect to follow Terry Partis. A meeting and list of eligible candidates has been sent out.
Margie also welcomed our newest Rotarian and encouraged everyone to consider inviting friends and prospective Rotarians to meetings.
Doug Fleming mentioned that the Saamis Rotary Club is having a "Cheer for a Year" draw this fall, tickets are available from the Rafflebox website.
President Mark mentioned that the Sunrise Rotary Club is also having a Christmas 50/50 draw. Tickets are available through the club.
Dave Panabaker reminded everyone that Club 1000 tickets are being distributed and we really depend on the Rotarians in the club to sell these to family, friends, the community and those who would specifically like to support the Rotary Music Festival. As a club we have 1000 tickets to sell, that averages about 20 tickets per person, so please don't delay getting after this work.
Several recent Rosebowl winners and participants in the Rosebowl competition will be performing a concert to benefit St Josephs home. It promises to be a great afternoon of music, these are three outstanding musicians. Please book the date into your calendar and join them for this wonderful event.
Kitt Brand mentioned that the Books for Immigrant Kids, are now at Saamis Immigration. Lets see how this goes!
Dave Panabaker reminded everyone that because of the changes to meal service at the MH Lodge, registration for "in person" meetings, if you wish to have a meal, is important. The next "in-person" meeting is November 9, and the registration email will be out the week before. If you register properly you should receive a confirmation email in return. If you have any questions or run into any trouble, or want to check to make sure your registration was accepted, please contact Dave.
Theresa Eisenbarth announced that Interact is running at MH High School, in a limited form this year. She has recently been allowed back into the school and the Interact club will meet in two different time slots. It will be a tough year, but this is a big step forward.
