Acting President Dave Panabaker opened the meeting by welcoming the 19 (in-person) and 9 (Zoomed in) members to the last meeting of March, a Business Meeting.
Dave commented on how the new technology – the new computer and camera – were working well. The sound system is still a work in progress.
The Zoomed in members were welcomed, at the start, with a big wave from all in attendance at the Lodge!
This was Dave’s last meeting as Acting President. Treasurer Gail Halderman will be in the hot seat for the month of April.
Rosebowl Performance
A straw poll conducted by Dave, resulted in the decision to hold the Rosebowl performance on Tuesday 19 April, the day after the Easter long weekend – subject of course to the availability of Laec Lorentzen and his accompanist Conn Shandro.
Community Service (CS)
Mike Christie (chair of the CS committee) shared the following:
- Saturday 14 May: Hands-on opportunity to serve – at Prairie Gleaners. Four hours, partners welcome; Dan Kammerer organizing the event.
- The Palliser Triangle Health Advisory Council: This Council is currently recruiting new volunteer members. An ‘Expression of interest’ form can be found on their website.
- Highway Clean-up: A clean-up of the highway next to the MH College may be organized, followed by a walk along the Sunrise Rotary Trail that circles the College. Watch this space!
Club 1000 Raffle
Dave reported the results of the 2022 Club 1000 raffle.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, he named the six ways in which the raffle sale had been different, including e-transfer capability and a site for credit card payments. Dave then discussed how these ‘New Things’ had worked out. One of several positives was that ticket availability at the Cultural Center information desk had worked well.
Club 1000 Raffle Results include the following:
- Sold 739 tickets (down from 758 in 2021)
- 41 Club members sold at least one ticket (about the same as in 2021)
Adding to the Raffle profit of $23,800, from one or two other sources, including $2000 donated by15 Rotarians, $40,000 will be presented to the Rotary Music Festival Society, by the RC of MH, as planned.
Dave ended his presentation with a slide on the winners of the raffle – value, ticket number, winner’s names and by whom each winning ticket had been sold.
During the ensuing question and discussion time, Dave confirmed that the annual contribution from the Club to the Rotary Music Festival Society would decrease by $2000 per year over the next five years, to give the Society time to adjust and organize.
