The Rotary Club of Medicine Hat met by ZOOM this morning, for our last business meeting of this Rotary year. President Bruce kicked off the meeting promptly at noon, and we got down to discussions about the club.
Bruce led off the meeting with a discussion about "makeups" and "attendance credit". Club Secretary Doug Fleming keeps track of those items that are sent to him, but we don't seem to have a consistent policy on what we keep track of, who needs to send it in, or what we are going to do with it once we have it. Definitely more discussion needed on this topic, likely into the year of PE Mike Christie.
Club Service Director, David Stalwick, advised that he had two updates to provide. The first was that he will be the "featured" program next week, as we discuss the change of venue for club meetings and how our recent test sessions went at other places. If you are interested in that item, please attend or tune in next week. David is also working on Club Service participation, ensuring that all items are covered as we start the next Rotary year.
Community Service Director, Terry Cooper, advised that Team Freewheel is now very close to having 500 bikes in the community, including almost 240 with Saamis Immigration. Great work by the team, and something for discussion as the budget work approaches.
Terry also mentioned that Rotary had been approached to help fund a playground in Desert Blume, and this would be a significant expense. More discussion is going on about this, as well as several small requests for support.
International Service Co-Director Kitt Brand spoke about a micro financing organization which is being examined by the committee for use by our club. KIVA is widely used in Rotary to provide micro loans to those in the developing work.
The website is easy to use, and Kitt says it is fun to follow the progress of individuals. Check it out at https://www.kiva.org
PE Mike Christie didn't have much to add to all this, and there were a number of Directors absent, so the discussion was finished for the time being. It was noted by Mike that he and Gail had not had a chance to work on the 24-25 Budget yet, so that discussion needs to happen in the next little while.
