Meeting Information
President Bruce Shepard took the podium and rang the bell precisely at 12:15 pm to begin our meeting today.
Bruce began the meeting with a reminder to the publicity group that they would be meeting in the afternoon at 5:00 pm through ZOOM.
Bruce also mentioned that the Rotary Club Board would be meeting, and after some discussion it was decided that Tuesday, January 30th at Melanie's office at 7:00 pm would be the time that worked for most folks.
Past President Melanie Harty took the podium and spoke about the accomplishments of the club, most specifically on the adoption of our new Strategic Plan and it's implementation as we go forward.
As Past President, Melanie is "in charge" but not alone in working on the governance needs of our club in the next Rotary year.  She will be contacting individuals to assume the role of President-elect to follow Mike Christie (who will be President 2024-2025).  She is likely also looking for some additional directors for a two year term, and will be speaking to the Board next Tuesday about upcoming vacancies.
She will be hoping for a positive response and will be trying to match job responsibility's with passions in service and Rotary.  Work is less onerous if it matches the desires of the individual to serve.
She will be consulting Past Presidents and other individuals as she goes forward.
Our ZOOM group was from all over the continent today, and sorry Terry B, I took this photo too soon to catch you as well.
Bruce mentioned that next weeks meeting will be a presentation on our membership event, Bring a Friend, by PE Mike Christie as well as a gathering of used clothing for the Medicine Hat Health Foundation (see the minute on this).

Minutes: new minutes and a few reminders
Keith Walker from Medicine Hat Sunrise advised that the "Secret 3K Walk for Women and Children" will be held on the Sunrise Rotary Trail on International Women's Day, Friday March 8 at 5pm. This is the third annual walk in support of the District initiative. Last year 15 of us did the walk on a freezing cold day but we are hoping for a much nicer day this year and thus more people. Drinks and treats will be provided at the finish. It shouldn't take more than 30-35 minutes to do the walk and people can decide to just do part of the route.
It is a fundraiser for the cause but we are really looking at it as a way for the clubs to come together.
We will meet in the Cultural Centre parking lot to begin the walk at 5pm.  Please plan to join in.
Kitt Brand mentioned that an important upcoming meeting is a presentation by Gerry Darichuk, to our club on February 12th regarding an aid program within Ukraine.  If you are interested in reading "ahead", please see this article on the District website.
Bingo session on January 26: Dave Panabaker is looking for one more floor worker.
A sign-up sheet was circulated and is available online at Members were asked to step up as volunteers for the information desk and for door monitoring.
President Bruce commented on how the monthly Rotary in Action articles published in the Medicine Hat News are attracting attention in the community. He asked all to consider asking those who feed back positive comments, to attend the membership drive event on 24 April.
Dave Panabaker advised that we have reached the 30% of sold tickets for our raffle, so prizes and costs are covered.  The money is now all going to the Music Festival.  Tickets may be purchased by credit card at our ZEFFY site, .  If you have some tickets sold, and perhaps some checks that you would like cashed, feel free to put those together and bring those to Dave, Glen or Doug.  We are happy to do those deposits, so purchasers checks are not sitting around too long.  Club members are reminded that our Club 1000 raffle is the principal activity to raise funds for the Rotary Music Festival, and our goal is to raise $36,000 for the 2024 Festival.
A reminder that our Club is participating in a Medicine Hat Health Foundation winter clothing drive, for hospital patients and mental health clients.  At our January 29th meeting, we will collect members' contributions and deliver it all to the hospital. Ian McLaughlin has agreed to bring his truck to the meeting that day so all the clothing can be loaded into his vehicle for transport.  Many thanks to those members who have already handed in contributions.
Mike Christie, the club's President-elect, is looking for additional folks to support our technical setup for in-person meetings.  The more people who know how to set up the equipment, the better off the club is.  Mike also needs someone to take over the leadership of the SGT-at-Arms role for each meeting.
    Family of Rotary
