Meeting Information
President Meeting Remarks:

President Mark Sorenson welcomed everyone to the meeting today.   He welcomed the presence of the Toastmasters as guests, and was looking forward to learning about the partnership between Toastmasters and Rotary for leadership training, presentation skills and service in the community.

Dave Panabaker did the update on sale of the tickets for Club 1000, the Festival is still "on", although a virtual Festival will be a first for all of us.  This raffle is our principle fundraising for the Music Festival. (as of  February 1st, we have 531 paid tickets in the draw barrel, and $26,550 in the bank).  Glen Presley, Doug Fleming and Dave Panabaker all have extra tickets, if someone runs short.  As well, if you have a number of sold tickets, please had them in to any of the three Rotarians on the committee and we'll get them counted.

As well, a list of previous purchasers who may not have been contacted will be sent out this upcoming week.  Any Rotarian who knows these potential ticket sales is welcome to contact them, hopefully they will still be willing and just haven't been approached yet.

Rotary Club "What-z New":

  • If our hybrid meetings continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound.  We are all learning as we go along here, but these type of meetings are manpower intensive.

Toastmaster - Rotary Partnership
The Rotary Club was delighted to welcome three members of Toastmasters District 42.  Rotary and Toastmasters have formed an organizational partnership over the past few years, to develop training programs, leadership training programs, provide service opportunities and  general support each other.

We welcomed Bev Le Blanc, Program Quality Director in District 42, Dave Schaaf from Lethbridge and Tom Simpson, the President of local Circle T Toastmasters club in Medicine Hat.  Dave Schaaf shared some of the thinking behind the partnership and some recent activity, while Tom shared his Toastmasters experience.  All were introduced by Past President Margie Booyens.
Dave spoke about the nature of both organizations, and how the Rotary Learning Center, on MYROTARY, has adopted a number of modules developed by Toastmasters.  He also spoke about the Pathways program within Toastmasters, the first major re-write of programing in Toastmasters since it's inception.  He described a typical meeting, how it operates and what the objectives are for the participants.
Tom spoke about the usefulness of Toastmaster training and experience in his personal and professional life, and how it helps build confidence and skills in almost everyone who attends.  The local club meets each Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:30 via ZOOM.  When the pandemic restrictions are lifted, their face to face meetings will be returning to the Anglican church hall at 606 12th ST SW.  Any Rotary members are most welcome to drop in, there is no obligation and they can learn about the organization.

The link for the meeting can be obtained by emailing their membership chair Ryan O'Reilly at ryanoreilly@live.ca or himself at tom21@telusplanet.net

A number of questions were asked and answered and more information on Toastmasters is available at http://www.toastmaster.org

  • Dave also mentioned that based on the Provincial standards for reopening, it may be six weeks or so (provided hospitalization numbers cooperate) before the bingo hall is up and running again.
  • Dave also mentioned, that invitations to both Stars of the Festival and the Rosebowl competition will be sent out this week.  Both events will be "live streamed" on Facebook, AND on YouTube.  So anyone with a computer should have access.  It's a great opportunity to invite donors, patrons, advertisers and Club 1000 ticket purchasers to see the quality of the talented performers.
