Acting President Doug Fleming welcomed everyone to the last meeting of February, and his last as "Acting President". He paused for a moment to reflect on the events of the last week, particularly the hostilities in the Ukraine. He reminded Rotarians that one of Rotary's principles is "Peace", and that we all hope for that soon in this region.
Doug also spoke about Rotary, and that this past week, on Feb 23rd was the 117th birthday of Rotary. So "Happy Birthday" to everyone.
Doug also mentioned that in our rotating series of "Acting President's", the month of March would bring you all Dave Panabaker, the month of April would be run by Gail Halderman, and the month of May by our President-elect Melanie Harty.

As this meeting was our monthly business meeting, Community Services Director, Mike Christie started off with a "Notice of Motion" for at least two weeks time that the Rotary Club had been asked to be one of the sponsors of the Special Olympics Canada - Summer Games on August 9 - 16, 2026. It is a long way in the future, but they are working to ensure sponsorships are lined up.
Some discussion took place regarding athletics and swimming, both having historical connection to this club.
Mike provided the wording of the motion, for a decision in two weeks.

Acting President Doug then took the "mic" back, and on behalf of Youth Services Director Peter Mueller, presented a notice of motion related to a large Interact Conference, covering Rotary Zone 28 and 32, which will take place in October of 2022.

Zone 28 & 32 Interact Conference
Calgary, Alberta
October 20 -23, 2022
Background Information
The Rotary Clubs of Calgary will be hosting a Zone 28 &32 Interact Conference at the Best Western Premier Hotel, October 20 to23, 2022. The Rotary Board felt this was an excellent opportunity to send several of our Interact Students to this conference.
The cost to attend is $991 per student and covers conference registration, hotel & meals costs. Clubs are responsible for transportation and chaperoning students to and from the Conference.
The Saamis Rotary Club has indicated they would be willing to sponsor one student. Our Interact Advisor has expressed an interest in attending. At this time we do not have the cost from Advisors.
The Board felt it would good to see two students and our Advisor attend. Since there are some details to work out, we are recommending the Club authorize up to $2,000 to send representative to this conference.
Notice of Motion:
On March 14, I will move or cause to be moved a motion that the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat authorizes an expenditure of up to $2,000 to send representatives to the Zone 28 & 32 Interact Conference in Calgary.
