Remarks of the President

Past President Dave Panabaker is subbing for president elect Melanie Hardy who is at a course for work. Dave welcomed everyone to the meeting and commented on what a good turnout we had when you added up those on line and those present.
Dave thanked the 12 people who came out on Saturday morning to help clean up our Rotary Centennial Trail. Pictures showed some of the volunteers and the many bags of garbage collected.
Many thanks went out to a group who worked over the weekend to file our 2022-2023 District Grant Application.
The recent 45 anniversary dinner celebration for Salamis included 6 from our club.
Dave also reminded us that May 8th is Mothers Day.
Our meeting next Monday will have Amanda VanderMolen (the general manager of MH Toyota) as our guest speaker to update us on how COVID has and still may effect the auto industry.
Our guest speaker for the May 16th meeting will be Klinton Nesmo talking about RYPEN

Dave then introduced Gwendoline Dirk for her classification talk.

Stories
 Gwendoline Dirk - Classification

Gwendoline was born and raised on a family farm with 9 siblings.
Gwendoline and Peter Mueller are partners and she enjoys the company of two pets Benni and Princess.
She is very proud of her farm background as it has given her the values she cherishes. That being a good attitude, Christian values; principles and a strong work ethic.
Her parents, especially her mother, were a strong advocate for education. The family also valued gathering for work, fun and social events.

Gwendoline has one son who is married and it seems that the one grandchild is the apple of her grandmothers eye. Her son also accepted the passion for continued education as he is now back at university.

When Gwendoline was considering post secondary education she first considered being a nurse, but then realized that she does like to help people...but not necessarily sick people. So she choose education as her new passion.
Her Bachelor of Education degree in 1986 led to teaching for 33 year. 20 year in the public school system and 13 years at the Medicine Hat College in adult development. She also obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Lethbridge in 2020.  Retirement from teaching has now presented the open question "What do I do now"? Her passion for continuing education has led her to many new interests and passions like painting, belly-dancing, computer and many other things. Gwendoline has also been driven to being healthy, fit, creating a society that values all people, and following world events.

She is currently part of Rotary, Kiwanis, Saamis Immigration, and the MH Police Commission.

Gwen hinted that she will have a new and exciting project in the "near" future.

Questions from the floor were all answered.
