Meeting Information
President Meeting Remarks:

President Terry Partis began the meeting by welcoming all the Rotarians present, and hoping everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving.  This meeting was to be new speakers from the "newly" reorganized Veiner Center, but unfortunately they have had to postpone.  They are rescheduled for the meeting on Nov 1, 2021.
So, in lieu of that presentation President Terry took some time to review the final push for the Move for Polio campaign, in support of "End Polio Now".  There have only been two cases of wild polio in the first eight months of this year, likely some of that progress due to travel restrictions associated with the COVID pandemic, and for the two countries that are still considered endemic, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the current political instability is likely masking some issues.

However there is stil good reason to celebrate the progress of eradication of this awful disease and Terry shared a 30 minute video from Rotary International titled "World Polio Day - Global Update 2021".  If you would like to see it again, or if you missed the meeting, the link is  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1B_0BKISZQ .  A great summary of the work being done, some of the remaining challenges and what all of us have learned along the way.  Watch for our DG Martin Parnell and our World Polio coordinator Marlene Doherty to make an appearance.  World Polio Day is Sunday October 24th this year.

On the "Move for Polio" front, Terry advised that our club is currently ranked 2nd in the District for contributions totaling a tremendous $7,125.  Great work by everyone and thanks to all who donated. President Terry advised he has several checks that need to be added to our total and hopes to finish the event with close to $9,000 in donations from our club. If you wish to make a donation to our club for this fundraiser go to  https://go.rotary5360gives.org/polio/b40a38/Team/Details  That link will take you to the donation page for our Club.

Rotary Club "What-z New":
  • As it is most likely our hybrid meetings will continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound.  We are all learning to adapt to this new reality.  Any wishing to help should contact Mike Christie 403 878 3311.
Rotary Club Membership Update:
  • If you are interested in helping this working membership team, please contact Mike Christie.  A new Membership Chair is needed, Mike is currently doing double duty with Community Service and it would be nice to lighten his load a bit.
  • There is always room for more interested Rotarians to join the membership team, check out a meeting and see how exciting it is.
  • Mike Christie suggested that prospective members could be invited to anyone one of a number of future ZOOM meetings, we have a wide variety of presentations upcoming in the next few weeks, and everyone is welcome.

Minute People:
  • Dave Panabaker, on behalf of the bingo chair Gregg Martin, passed along thanks to those 10 Rotarians who worked the last bingo on Friday evening.  A special prize game was held at the end of the event, so over 140 bingo players were in attendance and the event contributed $3,084 to the profit pool.  Roger Roy was the closest pot guess, and took home $9.00.
  • Dave also recommended the upcoming Clubrunner training to those in the club.  Charlene is an excellent teacher and everyone will learn something about the software we use to operate the club and the District. .
  • Terry Cooper from Team Freewheel advised that the next backyard work session will be Thursday Oct 21, at 1:00 pm in his backyard.  It will be the last get together before next spring.
  • Dawn Barr was in need of 6 additional Rose Runners, for our wedding anniversary reminder.  She got all six months covered off, and the binder will circulate from one month to the next.
  • Mike Christie advised that the membership committee is in need of mentors, for new members.  Please consider passing on your Rotary knowledge to one of our newest members.
  • Dawn Barr advised that the social side of Rotary will come out on Thursday October 28th, 6 pm, as all of us are invited to a ZOOM "virtual" Octoberfest social.  An invitation has been sent out this week, and Dawn's "stange" cousin Helga was in attendance to encourage or more likely scare us in to attendance.  It will be a great event, there is a prize for the most "Octoberfest" costume, and should be a lot of fun.  HELGA SAYS "BE THERE"!!!
  • Doug Fleming is circulating the club roster in digital form for all of us to review.  Please take a minute to review it and get any changes to Doug.
  • On behalf of Dan Kammerer, Dave P also advised that Wed Oct 27 is the next opportunity for club members to work a shift at Prairie Gleaners.  The email invitation is out, and you must respond in advance that you are attending.
  • .
Family of Rotary: (PLEASE KEEP ADOLF INFORMED ABOUT MEMBERS SO THAT INFORMATION CAN BE PASSED ON TO ALL IN THE WEEKLY NEWS).
