President Meeting Remarks:
President Terry Partis welcomed everyone to the meeting for August 23rd which would be the last in-person meeting in August. The next meeting on August 30 will be a ZOOM meeting.
(Editors note: There should probably be a picture here but there isn't. I was note-taking as well as Sgt at Arms which meant moving about the room with the microphone and I ran out of hands for the Camera. Of course, the fact that I had left my phone and hence the camera at home didn't help matters).
President Terry made a few announcements and comments prior to the meal being served. The casino over the weekend had gone well with 14 club members filling 25 positions over the period of the casino. Estimates of between $12K and $15K added to the pool from organizer Ken Zollner.
The invoices for the membership dues would be coming out in a few day's time prior to Gail heading out of town for a short holiday.
Sandy MacKay presented the Club with a framed certificate from RI acknowledging the successful completion of the 3H India project. Sandy had found it at home and thought it would be better if it was in the Club's safekeeping.
President Terry had attended Herman Wahl's memorial event and although dampened somewhat by the rain, there had been some very warm feelings experienced about a truly community-minded citizen. Terry noted that many of his comments were echoed by Denis Hall who represented the Lions which had been a large part of Herman's life in addition to Rotary.
At this point, the meal was served. On resumption, President Terry noted that remaining at this venue with numbers as low as they were today could not be continued. However, the Hotel management had sent a message to say the minimum number had now been reduced to 15. Obviously the Board would still need to consider all the possible options but this latest news certainly put a new complexion on the situation.
The RI theme for August is Membership. President Terry had completed a training seminar on Navigating the Rotary Learning Centre. He was pleased to announce the Robert Wolfson will spend 15 minutes at the next meeting helping all members to access the Learning Centre. President Terry introduced two membership video clips. They were both very informative and resulted in lots of questions and comments from members. A number of ideas and possible actions will be included in the discussions and final document for the new strategic plan.
