Meeting Information
President Meeting Remarks:

President Terry Partis welcomed everyone to his first "official" full meeting as President.  He wished everyone a Happy Canada Day and to our neighbors to the south a "Happy Independence Day".  There were 26 Rotarians joining the meeting today.

He wanted to especially welcome our newest Rotarian, Gwen Dirk and mentioned that he would be the speaker today, with the main topic to be the "Move for Polio" campaign of DG Martin Parnell.  He shared the welcome to everyone from DG Martin, and mentioned that there are a lot of initiatives coming forward this year including Move for Polio, Rotary Days of Service, Empowering Women & Girls, and the newest Rotary area of service, "Supporting the Environment".

He also brought the message of "Serve to Change Lives", from RI President Shakhar Mehta.  That theme has a double meaning, not only will we help others, but we will also change our own life.

Rotary Club "What-z New":
  • A new club laptop is in our future, the current one will not provide the service required to stream our meetings.
  • If our hybrid meetings continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound.  We are all learning as we go along here, but these type of meetings are manpower intensive.
Rotary Club Membership Update:
  • If you are interested in helping this working membership team, please contact Mike Christie.

Move for Polio
President Terry Partis spent some time speaking to the club about a significant initiative that is going on within Rotary District 5360.

As everyone knows, the job to "End Polio" is Rotary's # 1 priority, everywhere in the world.  We need to get this done, both because the goal is definitely in sight and so we can go on to do more good work in the world.  Rotary District 5360, with PDG Dan Dorherty and his wife Marlene have come up with a fundraising project that works very well with DG Martin's "more than healthy" lifestyle.

The project is called "Move for Polio", in any way you can.  Set a goal on an individual basis, sponsor another Rotarian or just make a financial donation.  President Terry will be sending out invitations to join "Team Medicine Hat", and have your contribution counted.  Any activity qualifies, walking your dog, swimming, running, biking, working a bingo, Team Freewheel's outside work certainly qualifies.

We hope to celebrate the success of this project, at World Polio Day in October.

  • Dave Panabaker also sends along a reminder that the July 19th meeting is very important for the project to move the Rotary Music Festival into the public domain, to introduce the opportunity for public members to join the society and serve on the Board.  We believe this will help secure a successful future for the festival. As the meeting of July 19th a special vote will be held on the new society bylaws.
