Meeting Information
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

President Mike Christie began the meeting with a note about the passing over the Christmas holidays of Rotarian David Maclean.  David was club President in 1982-1983 and was a member of the club for 47 years.  His sage advice will be missed and a number of members were able to attend the services in his memory.

Mike also spoke about recent developments in the Booyens family and sent along the club's thoughts and prayers to Johan and Margie as he battles cancer.  Margie has taken a Leave of Absence for at least the near future, as they decide on next steps and watch how the future evolves.

Past President Bruce Shepard spent a bit of time at the beginning of the meeting speaking about the "Why Rotary" event for 2025.  The planned attendance is 70 people, and the date will be Wednesday April 30th, 2025 at the Grandstand Ballroom of the Exhibition grounds.  The tentative cost is $50.00/person and the tickets will be split between the four clubs.

The planning meetings are going well, there has been good participation and engaged discussion about the event.  One change from last year is that the dinner will be a buffet style full meal which is one of the reasons for the cost.

Past President Bruce also requested that all Club PP be in touch with him early this week, to pass along the days or times that they would not be available for a meeting....he's trying to get as many together as possible to pursue the next President-elect to follow Milan Vujovic.

    Minute Reminders:

    BINGO UPDATE
Dave Panabaker reported on the first Bingo for 2025 on Saturday January 4th.  The club served 61 patrons of the bingo hall (in the middle of the snowstorm) and due to some lucky patrons did not contribute anything to the monthly pool.  Rotarian Terry Brekko won the guess pot with a small, but positive guess.  The next bingo will be the evening of Wednesday Jan 22nd, from 5 pm to 10 pm, and signup invitations will be out at the end of the week.

    UPCOMING MEETINGS AT CORE
Dave Panabaker advised that as part of the education program for next week, an invitation will be going out to all members for the first meeting at CORE, which is Monday February 3rd.  We would like to show how the "invitation" head count system works and get some idea of how many people will be joining us for that "in person" business meeting.

Homework for the education program will be going out tomorrow afternoon as well as the meeting invitation.

    TEAM FREEWHEEL
Terry Cooper mentioned that all the material regarding Team Freewheel has been uploaded to the Club Documents section of Clubrunner.  That will be demonstrated at the session next week.

    ROTARY DINNER CLUB
Milan Vujovic advises everyone who has signed up for this year's dinner club that dinners can now be booked.  If you have a particular date in mind, it's best to get it to him (or his spouse Almira) so that date can be fit into the schedule.  Please phone and book your dinner as soon as you can.

    Family of Rotary
    • As noted by President Mike, the club sends its prayers and condolences to the Maclean family on the recent loss of Rotarian David.
    • The club also sends our prayers and best wishes along to Johan Booyens, as he battles cancer.  He will be moving to St Joseph's Hospice on Tuesday January 7th, and can be visited there.  It would be advisable to contact Margie before visiting, just to make sure he is in shape for a visit.
    • The club also sends best wishes to Bernice Chesley, widow of Rotarian Wayne, who has moved closer to family in Calgary.  She will be transferring to an apartment style unit on January 21st and we wish her the best.
    • Please keep a Board Member informed about members health and/or any other changes, so that information can be provided to the club through the Weekly News.
