President's Remarks:
President Chris Perret welcomed everyone to this meeting, which has a great deal of Rotary Business to transact.
The Rotary Club was delighted to welcome Lisa DesRoches as our newest member, she was inducted by Dave Panabaker, and President Chris Perret.  She was introduced by her sponsor, PE Margie Booyens and her mentor is Melanie Harty.  A warm welcome to Lisa.
The Rotary Club also made Dan Kammerer, a transfer from the Medicine Hat Sunrise club an "official" member of our club.  Welcome to Dan!
PDG Sandy Mackay was pleased to present Paul Harris Fellowships to Krista Lawson and Ken Feser, as the newest members of our 100% PHF club.  As well Sandy presented Terry Brekko with an updated Paul Harris pin to reflect his ongoing support of the Rotary Foundation.
Rotary Club Information:
Club Treasurer Gail Halderman, on behalf of Director of International Service Teresa Schile, read out the following motions of financial spending, for two projects.
  1. "Move that the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat approve $2,500 towards the Sri Lankan project "Make them smile with a new set of teeth", and apply for a District Grant for $7,500, to fund the total expenditure of $10,000.  Moved by Gail, seconded by Wayne Chesley and approved unanimously.
  2. "Move that the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat approve $2,000 for the Pillar sponsorship for Canadian Humanitarian, Hues for Humanity color run on June 8, 2019.  Moved by Gail, seconded by Dave Panabaker, and approved unanimously.
  • Upcoming meetings:
    • On  Wednesday April 17, the Rotary Board meeting will take place at the Cypress Club, starting at 7:30 pm.  All members are invited to attend.
    • On Monday April 22, there will be NO MEETING as it is Easter Monday.
    • On Monday April 29, it will be an evening meeting, beginning at 5:30 for drinks and 6:00 pm for dinner.  The meeting will take place in the Crowfoot Room at the MH College and will celebrate our Rosebowl winner, Laec Sorrenstan. 
    • Also, notice was given that the annual evening dinner with the MHHS Interact club will be Monday May 27th.
  • Housekeeping:
    • Please bring auction items.  It is an important part of our meeting.

Upcoming Rotary Events:
  • Rotary District 5360 Convention, May 3 - 5, 2019 in Olds, AB. DG Dan is proposing a different and exciting district conference, so members are encouraged to register.  So far it looks like 5 members are planning to attend.
  • Rotary International Conference in Hamburg Germany in June 2019

Weekly Draws:  
  • Attendance draw today was Ted Cowtan who was not in attendance to win a free meal. 
  • The club draw was won by Wayne Chesley who took home a tile from Mexico.
Club 500:
  • $1,500 was won by Neil Mardian, on a ticket sold by Chris Perret.

Family of Rotary:
  • Doug Thorson is doing better every day
  • Don Reid will be taking a leave of absence for medical reasons, we all wish him the best.
  • POST MEETING NOTE:  The club passes on its condolences to the Kemp family, on the passing of Georgia Jean's Mom on Tuesday. 
Minute People: 
  • Dave Panabaker thanked the bingo volunteers, as he has a full slate  for the April 28th Bingo.
  • Director of International Service, Teresa Schile. There are two motions presented today for formal approval, the first as a sponsor for the Hues for Humanity Run and the second as a donation to a project from the recent Sri Lankan Rotarians, regarding hearing aids.
  • President Chris Perret reminded Rotarians about the upcoming club Board meeting on Wednesday April 17, starting at 7:30 pm.  All club members are welcome.
  • President Chris also reminded Rotarians that EarthDay is Saturday April 20, and our section of the highway adjacent to the Cultural Center will be cleaned up from 9 am - 11 am..
  • Margie was looking our interest in being part of thee brown bag lunch program for the students in Medicine  Hat Our involvement would be that we volunteer one day a month working at the Hillcrest Church. Good interest was given.
  • Margie presented the note from Theresa Eisenbarth that the MH High School Interact club is doing a bake sale at the hospital on Thursday April 18 to support their renovation project of  Room 50 on the pediatric ward.  There are several ways to support the Interact students in the fundraising, please see Theresa's email.
  • Al Garden announced that Joe Chacko will be taking over the setting of tee times for the Monday golf. All members and friends are invited to the connaught Golf course for the 2:00 tee times.
  • Dan Kammerer reminded Rotarians who are interested that the next Pettacoucha evening is April 27, at Medalta.
