President's Information
President's Remarks:
President Chris Perret opened the meeting at 12:15.
He thanked all the Rotarians who helped out with the Christmas Stocking event, approximately 150 stockings we distributed last Tuesday at the Masterpiece Center in Southlands and at the Carmel Hospice.
President Chris also updated the club on our Rotary Centennial Trail project. The process is proceeding with good cooperation from the Land owners ,governments and potential contractors. Total cost for the project is now estimated at $400,000.00. The Request for Quotations to several local contractors have been opened and hopefully they will be in a position to start the layout and grading this year.  It is still intended to be a paved trail in the spring of 2019.
A short questionnaire has been emailed out to members, asking for feedback on strategic priorities and fundraising.  The results of this survey will be part of the strategic planning session in mid-January.  A date for that session will be announced shortly.
Please complete the questionnaire and either bring it to the next meeting or email it back to Chris.  This is an opportunity for all members to express their opinion and to have their voices heard, so don't waste the chance.

Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society presentation
The Rotary Club welcomed Peggy Revell, Community Education Coordinator for the Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society to the meeting today.  Peggy is a former reporter for the Medicine Hat News, and has recently taken on the role with the MHWSS to help support their out-reach and support programs for victims of family violence in this community and surrounding area.
Peggy reviewed the definition of family violence, which is "violence or abuse of power within a relationship where there's trust, dependency and family".   There was a good size crowd at the meeting today, which filled the room and was nice to see so close to the Christmas season.
She spoke about familiar programs, such as Phoenix Safe House and the 24/7 help line (1-800-661-7949).  She also talked about the "Housing First" initiative, Musasa Second Stage Housing and their outreach programs.  A wonderful presentation, a lot of information and a number of subsequent questions asked and answered.  Great presentation about an unfortunately necessary service in the community.
