Rotary Weekly News - August 15, 2022 (Aug 15, 2022)

On Monday 15 of August, 18 members met at the Medicine Hat Lodge for our regular noon meeting.

President Melanie welcomed all to our business meeting to review the budget for 2022/23.

President Melanie was presented with up graded Paul Harris Pin by Sandy M. Sandy thanked Melanie for her continued support for the foundation.

Budget for 2022/23 presented by Melanie and Gail.

Gail provided a detailed out line of the Budget. Income from the 9 categories totaled $122,025.00. Expenses from 18 categories totaled $129,025.00. The budget deficit of $7,100.00 will come from Reserves. Outstanding commitments are for the trail project $7,500.00, Prairie Gleaners $2,500.00 and the Music Festival of $38,000.00.

Annual dues had a small increase to $275.00/year and are now due!

Rotary Club "What-z New":

A few more meeting helpers are required to run cameras and sound during our hybrid meetings. We are all learning to adapt to this new reality. Anyone wishing to help should contact Mike Christie 403 878 3311.

Meet and Greet with Saamis Immigration clients

The Rotary Club was delighted to join the clients and staff of Saamis Immigration, for a morning of visiting and relaxation at Echodale Regional Park on Thursday August 11, 2022. Echodale Park still shows many of the scars of the recent extreme weather event, many stumps indicate where trees were lost.

New clients got a chance to practice their English, if the language is new to them, other clients met old friends and all the kids enjoyed the sunshine.

Minutes

Sunshine Trolley tours with Saamis Immigration clients.

Margie Booyens is organizing two morning ride arounds, with newcomers to our community through Saamis Immigration. Those tours will be Monday August 22 and Tuesday August 23. The trolley leaves Saamis at 9:00am and will end at the Tourist Center at 10:30 am. All Rotarians are invited to the Tourist Center at that time to enjoy some refreshments and meet some of the new members of our community. Invitations to ride the trolleys have been sent out.

The Saamis Rotary Club is holding their annual fundraising raffle this summer. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.winningticketlottery.ca

Ribfest

Gail and Melanie:

The 2022 Ribfest is taking place on Friday 26 August (11:00 – 21:00), Saturday 27 August (11:00 – 21:00) and Sunday 28 August (11:00 – 19:00), at the new Towne Center facility.

Our club will have the opportunity to sell water as a fund-raiser.

Volunteers are needed to organize and to do the selling of the water bottles. A sign up sheet will be distributed or you can please contact Gail Halderman or Anne Carrier.

PROBUS chapter

A new Medicine Hat chapter of PROBUS is being organized. This friendship and social club is meeting monthly on the first Thursday of every month, at 10:30 am at the Veiner Center.
