President Meeting Remarks:

Club Director Mike Christie was serving as acting President today for our noon meeting.

He wanted everyone to know that he had spoken to Terry Partis last evening, and although Terry will need to be away from the club for business reasons for the foreseeable future, he will not be giving up his membership. That was agreeable news to all present and we will be delighted to see Terry back when he can make it.

Mike reminded the club Board that there is a meeting on Tuesday evening.

Rotary Club "What-z New":

As it is most likely our hybrid meetings will continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound. We are all learning to adapt to this new reality. Any wishing to help should contact Mike Christie 403 878 3311.

Rotary Club Membership Update:

There is always room for more interested Rotarians to join the membership team, check out a meeting and see how exciting it is. The committee meets on the second Thursday of each month at 5:00 pm, contact Mike Christie to join in.

Methanex Presentation

We welcomed the new Plant Manager, Brad Apking and Stakeholder Relations Coordinator Jody McGill.

Methanex took over the plant-site in Medicine Hat in 1992, so they will celebrate 30 years in the community this summer. The plant originally was constructed by Alberta Gas Chemicals and opened in 1972, so a 50 year anniversary is also in the calendar for this year.

Brad has been with Methanex for 9 years, and transferred to Medicine Hat in June of last year. He spent a little time speaking to the change in climate and lifestyle from his previous posting in Louisiana. Methanex is a Canadian company, headquartered in Vancouver. They have 1,500 employee's worldwide and make approx. 13% of the worlds methanol supply.

Brad recommended the company website, www.methanex.com , to everyone for much more information. He spoke about the uses of the product and some of the challenges of the Medicine Hat location. He mentioned that they have had 6 years of operation without a lost time injury and work diligently on Emergency Management. They also have been awarded several safe operation and safe shipping awards.

Brad and Jody invited everyone to the plant site in the Fall of 2022, for the annual "Connecting with Community" day.

We welcomed our guest speaker, Brad Apking - Methanex Plant Manager and Jody McGill - Stakeholder Relations to our meeting.
The 22 Rotarians at the meeting enjoyed the presentation. Through the ZOOM connection we have members join from Mexico, Hawaii and Arizona.

Minute People:

Dave Panabaker thanked everyone who has already been out selling Club 1000 tickets. We have lots of tickets to sell and if you need more please contact Dave, Glen Presley or Doug Fleming. Sales of these tickets are our principle fundraising effort for the Rotary Music Festival each year, and we have until the beginning of March to sell them. The QR code will take you to our Credit Card site.

On behalf of Gregg Martin, Dave also mentioned that there is an upcoming bingo, on Saturday January 22 in the evening. Two more volunteers are needed and a second sign-up email will go out this morning.
