South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Museum Tour The Regimental Museum is happy to be hosting the Rotary Club for a guided tour of the Regimental Museum. The Museum illustrates the long history of the South Alberta Light Horse and the units it perpetuates. Museum Docents will be available for questions. From 1885 to today a military presence has been a huge part of the development of Medicine Hat as a vibrant community. The contributions of local citizens serving in the Regiment during times of conflict and emergency are noted through displays and information placards. There will be displays relating to various periods of time in the history of the Regiment, including. -An early pre 1900 display that will tell the story of the earliest military unit in Medicine Hat. -An accurate depiction of a World War One Trench system. - Uniforms worn by soldiers of all eras. -Personal stories of men who served overseas and their contributions to the Regiment and the soldiers they served with. -The South Alberta Regiment’s Major David Vivian Currie is highlighted as the only Victoria Cross winner from the unit. -Medicine Hat’s very own Danny McLeod featured prominently as well. -You will see radio equipment used by the Regiment as well as see how the Regiment nearly ceased to exist. -Service of South Alberta Light Horsemen in United Nations and NATO Missions, including Afghanistan -There will be a small memorial for local soldier lost in Afghanistan as well as members of the Regiment who served there. -Through several emergency events in Medicine Hat the South Alberta Light Horse stepped up to help protect our community. Additionally, soldiers of the South Alberta Light Horse will be presenting some of the equipment they use and our docents will explain some of the history of Patterson Armoury. All of this can be seen at the South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Museum on the afternoon of June 8th. Wes Krause, CM Curator Regimental Museum South Alberta Light Horse |

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. My name is Danielle Skogen, and I am the current co-president of MH Sunrise Rotary, I am also one of the Regional Facilitators of our District's "Reach the Summit" Workshop. I am reaching out because on September 29th at 6pm, Karen Blewett (M H Rotary Ignite) and I will be leading the "Reach the Summit" Workshop for all clubs in Medicine Hat. This is a District event, that we have been asked to lead locally, and we are really excited! Reach the Summit is all about helping Rotary Clubs create a strong vision for what they want to acheive this Rotary year (and beyond), using the supportive framework of the Rotary Action Plan. Together we will explore ways each of our Clubs can continue to do more and more meaningful work, and come together to set clear goals and priorities. There will be opportunities to reflect on the Rotary Action Plan more globally, and also plenty of time to set goals and get clear on priorities for your own Club. Our aim to ensure that all four Clubs are in attendance, with a goal of at least 3-4 members per Club (ideally with all Club Presidents in attendance). Overall, this session is meant to be a supportive session for Clubs to help their President, leadership, and members create a strong vision for the year ahead. (If you have new members, this is also a great opportunity for them to better understand Rotary and commit to clear action in your Club.) Event Details: The event will occur on September 29th from 6:00-8:30 PM at The Cypress Club - a plated dinner (order off the menu) and refreshments will be provided free of charge. Ideally we would like all presidents to do the following: 1) Confirm their personal attendance 2) Share the event with their Clubs via email as soon as possible, and also verbally in upcoming meetings 3) Personally aim to recruit 3+ Club members to attend I am here to answer any questions and greatly appreciate your support!" |
