Meeting Information
President Meeting Remarks:

President Margie welcomed everyone to our Annual General Meeting, which was being held virtually.  President Margie also mentioned that after the AGM, the second half of the meeting would be dedicated to club business.

During the business meeting, President Margie announced that there had been several questions about the pending move to the MH College, so arrangements were being made for a special Zoom meeting, which would allow the rationale for the move to be shared, PE Mark will host the discussion in the near future.

President Margie also announced that to fill several of the recent vacancies on the club board, both Dave Panabaker and Terry Partis have been added to the board for the balance of the regular Rotary year.

Club Treasurer Gail Halderman spoke to a recent email about the possability of hosting a "ribfest" later in the summer.  Gail's comments were that the proposal had been fairly well received by club members and the hope was that provincial permission to host the event would be forthcoming soon.  Several questions were asked about other charities that had been previously involved in ribfests in town, and Gail advised of the facts as he was aware of them.  The club voted overwhelming to pursue the concept for the weekend of August 7/8.

PLEASE NOTE, next week is the 102nd birthday of the club and our meeting will be moved to 2:30 pm and we will meet at the east end of the new Rotary Centennial Trail on South Boundary Road.  A specific invitation is being sent out by email, and President Margie and Dawn Barr wished to ensure that anyone who needed assistance to get to the location please contact them.  A social will take place at Boston Pizza after the afternoon walk.  A photographer from the Medicine Hat News should be there to take a proper "social distanced" photograph.

2020 Rotary Club AGM
Past President Dave Panabaker led the club through their annual general meeting, rescheduled to later in the Rotary year and done virtually due to the social distancing restrictions of Covid-19.  This certainly was a different AGM that we are used to in this club, but everyone in attendance was supportive and the process went well.

After dealing with a few housekeeping issues, including checking that a quorum of club members (34 of 65) were in attendance, the meeting was turned over to the current executive.  President Margie Booyens, Club Secretary Doug Fleming, Membership Director Mike Christie all provided short reports.

After a final call for nominations from the floor, PP Dave presented a motion that the club approve the slate as presented, a motion that was seconded by Roger Roy.

  • No guests today, it was a business meeting.
Minute People:
  • On behalf of the Medicine Hat High School Interact club, Dave Panabaker wanted to get the message out that although the Interact Garage Sale is currently on hold,  it is a great idea as a fundraiser and if any club member or friend of Rotary is doing any cleaning out at home, and has goods that could be donated to the garage sale to be in touch with Theresa Eisenbarth.  She has a spot to keep a small amount of stuff that could be saved for the sale (whenever it is held).
  • Kitt and Dieter Brand have a supply of Rotary "themed" protective masks...please be in touch if you would like one.
  • Kitt Brand wanted to pass on the availability of the Rotary Canada One "E-Club" for those that are interested.  https://portal.clubrunner.ca/8529
  • Dick Bide mentioned that the club should consider supporting the local fundraiser for Halo.  The online auction will be underway all week, so please consider either a donation or bidding on something.
  • If you have photos or a story to include in the Weekly News, please submit it to Dave P and we'll try to publish it.
