Meeting Information
President Meeting Remarks:
President Terry Partis started the meeting by advising that the Club Board has agreed tha the safest way forward is that we are back to ZOOM meetings for the short term at least, with the Public Health Emergency.  District Leadership have asked that we ensure our members safety as a priority and that access to our meetings be kept as open as possible.  Terry also mentioned that at the Club Director's meeting this past Tuesday, the Board received the initial report of Ken Feser on the update (or completion) of our Strategic Plan.  Hopefully some information will be coming out to club members within a few weeks.

Terry also reminded everyone that those interested in applying for, or understanding the District Grant process need to set aside the morning of Saturday October 16th.  The District Grant qualification webinar is that morning, from 9 am to noon.  Register in advance at this link https://rotary5360.ca/event/grants-qualification-workshop  One person from the club must attend to qualify us for grants next year.

Terry also mentioned that an event combining the four major service clubs, Kiwanis, Lions, Optimists and Rotary, entitled "Celebrate Community 2021" is coming in mid October.

A total of 23 members of the club joined us thru ZOOM today, and we anticipate a few more as we move through this fourth wave.

On the "Move for Polio" front, Terry advised that our club is currently ranked 3rd in the District for contributions that now total of $3,525.  However he was thrilled to advise that several contributions by check have been forwarded to the District leader of this initiative, and our total pledges will soon read a tremendous $7,225.  Great work by everyone and thanks to all who donated.

Rotary Club "What-z New":
  • As it is most likely our hybrid meetings will continue in the future, a few more meeting helpers will be required to help run cameras and sound.  We are all learning to adapt to this new reality.  Any wishing to help should contact Mike Christie 403 878 3311.
  • Mike Christie advised that he will be taking over the leadership of the Community Services Committee, and is looking for someone to assume the role of Membership chair.  Our Club Board is currently two short of a full complement, so we could use a few more volunteers.

Rotary Club Membership Update:
  • If you are interested in helping this working membership team, please contact Mike Christie.  A new Membership Chair is needed.
  • Margie Booyens was delighted to announce that Ms Reagan Weeks, Prairie Rose Superintendent of Schools has been approved for membership.  Her induction will hopefully be done at the Oct 4th meeting.
  • The club was saddened to hear that Joan Sauve, primarily for health reasons will not be renewing her membership in the club this year.  We all wish her well, and thank her for her many years of service to the community.  She will stay in touch by remaining as a bulletin subscriber.

2021-2022 Club Budget
Today's business meeting centered around the adoption of our 2021-2022 Club budget.  Treasurer Gail Halderman walked the club through the various avenues of service and the proposed funding of each of them.  It is certainly not a normal year, but our Community and International Service projects are both funded and our contribution to the Rotary Music Festival is also in line with our funding agreement.
Gail spoke about the approach to the budget, which contains a few conservative estimates so that we don't promise more than we can deliver.  By spring, the funding and financial position may look much different, and at that time other projects could be considered if the budget has a significant surplus.

Gail spoke about our fundraising projects, and the need to finish the trail signage along Rotary Centennial trail.  As well, the club's support of the Sanare Centre is provided for in the budget, so that should be a wonderful project.  As part of the budget, it was mentioned that the annual club dues, of $250/year, are now due.  Gail is sending out invoices for those that haven't paid already.  The budget was recommended for approval by Gail, seconded by Dave Panabaker and approved without opposition.
