Following the signing of O Canada President Milan welcomed everyone including this week's guest - Yuliia Demkovich, Brian Rothwell, Sharon MacDonnell, Diane Halderman and George Koopman who was our guest speaker.

Other important business conducted included a motion by Anne Carrier on an application to Alberta Gaming for the 2025/26 Medicine Hat Music Festival raffle. This motion was moved by Dave Panabaker and seconded by Mike Christie.  The motion was passed unanimously.

MONARCH 1911 SOCIETY

As many Rotarians will know, our club, in cooperation with the Saamis Rotary Club and the Friends of the Monarch Society, has been working on restoring both the structure and the programming at the historic Monarch movie theatre on 2nd St S.E, Medicine Hat.

Our club will try to keep track of events on at the Monarch, to give members a heads-up that the opportunity to serve exists.  If you are interested, please let Rotarian Janessa Anderson (403-952-1907) know and she can provide details of available shifts and responsibilities.

Volunteering at a show is a great way to connect with the community and support the historic local landmark.

Ideas for Future Programs

Stories
Leslie Tuchscherer Classification talk
Leslie, who prefer being behind the scene, was awesome in presenting her classification talk

Immigrating from Manchester, England at an early age of 9 years old, she eventually acquired the Canadian accent.

Leslie worked in the Oil And Gas sector administration as a Health and Safety Professional.  She has been involved in Step for Life raising funds to support families affected by work site injuries.
She believes that you are never too old to learn and grow. This is one reason of her interest in Rotary service which she learned about from her good friends, Gail and Diane Halderman.  Leslie also acknowledged Dave Panabaker and John John as those who had a positive influence on her decision to join Rotary.

Medicine Hat Ecumenical Campus Ministry

Following Leslie, Chaplin George Koopman joined the Medicine Hat College to lead the campus ministry for religion, spiritual and ethical support to students and staff. His message was: "The opposite of addiction is connection". With this in mind, George works to create and interfaith program assisting all in discussions, get togethers around a good meal and private conversations, all to help students progress through their studies.

Establishing connections creating memories and friendships allows students to remain focused on their studies.  Many different activities initiated through this program reduces the stress of college life and enables individuals to deal effectively with life challenges.
